Maya Lin is a Chinese American architect and sculptor. She is the niece of Lin Huiyin. Lin is widely known for her design for the planned Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., a competition she won at age 21, as an undergraduate. Since then, she has designed many famous memorials and is widely acknowledged for her brilliant designs. In 2016, Lin was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama.
